Liverpool suffered a night of frustration as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Utrecht at Anfield

A young Liverpool line-up found it tough going against the disciplined Dutch side in a disappointing encounter.

driving run

With qualification from Group K already assured, Roy Hodgson made 10 changes from the side which lost at Newcastle United on Saturday, with only centre-back Martin Skrtel surviving.

Ace striker Fernando Torres was left on the bench along with fellow first-teamers Glen Johnson, Raul Meireles, Dirk Kuyt and Sotirios Kyrgiakos while goalkeeper Jose Reina was rested altogether.

Hodgson's last-minute decision not to start Torres robbed Liverpool of a much-needed cutting edge.

In a disjointed and lacklustre match, the closest the home side went to threatening a goal was Milan Jovanovic's early long-range effort which rattled the crossbar after a driving run from the halfway line..
Torres never made it off the substitutes' bench as the Reds made it 10 matches without defeat in the Europa League without ever coming close to being convincing.
